Rotavirüs Nedir?

Rota virüs, çocuklarda ciddi ishal, kusma, ateş ve karın ağrısına yol açan, oldukça bulaşıcı bir viral enfeksiyondur. Genellikle "kış ishali" olarak da bilinir ve özellikle 5 yaş altındaki çocuklarda sık görülür. Virüs, ağız yoluyla bulaşır ve genellikle enfekte kişilerin dışkısıyla temas sonucu yayılır. Kış aylarında daha yaygın olmakla birlikte yılın her döneminde görülebilir.

Rota virüs enfeksiyonu, çocuklarda su kaybına (dehidrasyona) yol açarak ciddi sağlık sorunlarına neden olabilir. Belirtiler genellikle virüsle temas ettikten 1-3 gün sonra başlar ve ishal birkaç gün sürebilir. Aşırı sıvı kaybı durumunda hastanede tedavi gerekebilir. Tedavi genellikle destekleyicidir ve kaybedilen sıvının yerine konmasına dayanır. Rota virüs, gelişmekte olan ülkelerde çocuk ölümlerinin önemli bir sebebi olduğundan, erken müdahale ve koruyucu önlemler büyük önem taşır.
